Designing for Diverse and Equitable Inventive Identity Exploration

Dr. Joanna Garner will lead a panel discussion on how researchers and practitioners are working together to design contexts in which equitable participation in invention and innovation can occur. In this 60 minute presentation, Dr. Garner and panel members will discuss how various educational contexts can support identity exploration and the development of an inventive identity. Dr. Garner will be joined by:

  • Alaina Rutledge, Vice President of Education R&D, National Inventors Hall of Fame
  • Dr. Avi Kaplan, Professor of Educational Psychology, Temple University
  • Dr. Erica Matheny, Researcher and Curriculum Writer for Camp Invention, National Inventors Hall of Fame
  • Dr. Jeff Brodie, Deputy Director of the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History

Participants can expect to become familiar with identity exploration design principles and ongoing research that aims to understand barriers and facilitating factors for developing an inventive identity.
